Build a better bond with your Horse
This post is inspired by having Dixie for 3 years and long summer days at the barn riding.
Hey Y’all! So I was thinking at the beginning of each post I will share a quote of the week, one that really spoke to me that week. I think I might do that for my YouTube videos as well. Today I am going to talk about how to build a better bond with your horse. Today marks three years that I have had my horse Dixie and over the years we have built a unique bond, so I wanted to share it with y’all. But first let’s start out with the quote.
“I guess if you don’t jump you’ll never know if you can fly.” – Miranda Lambert.
This quote to me means if you don’t step out of your comfort zone and do things that are brave then you won’t know how much you can grow.
Alright so before I get into this I need to mention that you can not force a bond with your horse, however you can build your bond but you can not force it to happen.
- Trust – Your horse needs to trust you and you need to trust your horse. Trust is also something that you can not force. One of the ways to build trust is to just be around your horse, do little obstacles with your horse, and just be around your horse which leads into my next point.
- Be around your horse – This could be riding your horse, leading your horse on the halter, lunging, grooming your horse is another way to build a bond, and you could simply just sit in your horses stall and read a book. As soon as I started grooming my horse everyday our bond and trust grew a lot more. It also helps you learn your horse, one day I was grooming my horse and I found a lump in his neck that I might not have noticed had I not groomed him everyday.
- Training – So this is similar to just being around your horse. As soon as I started working with my horse everyday I saw a huge growth in our bond and we trusted each other. Most days I would ride, other days I would jump on bareback, or sometimes I would just take him out on the halter and let him graze outside his paddock.
So I know this wasn’t a very long post but just working on the little things will help a lot. So I am thinking of doing a Fitness Friday post where I share My horse’s and I’s workouts for the week.
