Guest Room Must Haves

I think it’s important when you have guests over to stay that they feel comfortable, welcome and at home. You want them to feel like they have their own space and not feel like they are intruding into your space. Here are a few things you can do to help them feel cozy and comfortable during their stay. *

  • Water: While most guests know they are more than welcomed to grab a glass of fresh water from the fridge. I like to put extra water in the guest room so it is readily available to them.

  • Snacks: Similarly with the water guests are more than welcome to help themselves to our pantry however they may not always feel comfortable doing that if they get hungry late at night. Customizing a snack basket based off of who is staying at your home is a simple way for them to feel more welcome.

  • WiFi Password: Displaying your WiFi password for easy access for your guests is a great idea. You can just write it down on a piece of paper or make it a cute part of your decor and type it out and put it in a cute picture frame as a neutral decor piece.

  • Extra Pillows: This is a must. Some people like one pillow and some like many pillows having extra pillows gives them plenty of options to choose from.

  • Bedding In Layers: Everyone has different preferences as far as sleeping in a room that is warmer or cooler. Making the bed in layers allows for accommodations for both. A sheet, top sheet, then the quilt or blanket.

  • Extra Blankets: Similarly to the previous one. Having an extra blanket available in the guest room is nice in case they get cold. If you live in a super cold climate and have guests over the winter, then you could provide an electric blanket for them to use as well.

  • Hangers and Closet Space: Most guests like to be able to hang up some of their clothes so have extra hangers and an empty closet for them is helpful.

  • Laundry Hamper: If you offer your guests to be able to do laundry during their stay it is nice to keep a hamper in their room so that they can put their dirty clothes in it and off the floor.

  • Cleared off dressers: Having dressers cleared off so guests can set their stuff on it freely without feeling like they need to move your things

  • Cleared out Drawers: Having an empty dresser and empty nightstand drawers is another thing that can help a guest feel like they have their own space.

  • Books or Magazines: I always have lots of books that anyone can grab and read during their stay. Also, getting a few magazines tailored to the guest that is staying there is also a nice welcoming touch.

  • Power Strip: This is something some may already have in your home. But, if not adding a power strip to your guest room can be helpful so they can charge their devices.

  • Lamp: Most rooms have an overhead light. But, once you’re all cozy in bed you aren’t going to want to get out of bed to turn the light off so having a bedside lamp is nice.

  • Alarm Clock: I know most people use their phones now for their alarm, but some people prefer a nightstand alarm clock.

  • Minimal Decor: Having minimal decor and not having any clutter in the guest room is another cozy tip and also another way to help the guests feel like they are staying in their own space.

  • Hook: Having one or two solid hooks in the guest room is something that might be an after thought. It is a great addition for guests to hang their bath towel, their hand bag, a coat, or whatever they may need to use it for.

  • Robes: I. would say these are mostly optional. But, some guests may enjoy using a robe for lounging or an added layer of warmth if it is chilly.

  • Fresh Towels: Having a set or two of fresh towels in their room for them can help them feel organized and comfortable knowing there are plenty of clean towels.

  • Mirrors: Having a full length mirror can be nice but also having one that goes above a dresser so people can feel like they have a spot to get ready, do hair or makeup other than in the bathroom.

  • Trash Can: Having a little waste basket in the bedroom is definitely convenient for guests.

  • Fresh Flowers: This is such a nice touch for guests. Even better if they are from a local farmers market.

  • Coaster: If you have wood furniture having a coaster is a good idea for guests to set their drink on.
