Spring Cleaning On The Farm

Hey y’all! Spring cleaning is right around the corner or may have even started for some of y’all. These are just some of the things we like to do as the weather warms up.

  • Deep Clean Animals Shelters: We clean out their shelters all year long but if you live in a winter climate you know that some of the bedding can freeze to the floor so, we will do a deep clean when the weather warms up to make sure we get everything out. We will clean them out, open up the doors and let the fresh air and sun hit the floors for a day before putting fresh bedding down.

  • Put Summer Waterers out: Some of our animals get a different style waterer during the colder months. So, we will clean the winter waterers out and put them away and then bring out the summer waterers.

  • Give Animals A bath: The first really warm day in the spring I like the give the animals a bath. The dogs, my horse and the goats if needed. Once it’s warm we give baths as needed.

  • Prepare Garden Area: It’s time to get your gardens ready if you have one. Now, I will start planning out what I want to grow this year. Make sure I have the area cleared and my seeds ready. I get this all prepared so once the weather is right we can freshly work the ground and get things planted.

  • Yearly Service On Mowers: Towards the end of winter/beginning of spring we get the mowers ready for the mowing season. Oil changes, filter changes, tire checks, etc.

  • Fine Tuning On The Planter: Before planting my husband likes to grease the planter, make sure planter boxes are ready and do a once over of the planter to make sure everything can go as smooth as possible.

There may be a few other odds and ends that we do around the farm, but this is the bulk of it.
