5 Ways To Diversify Income On Your Farm

Hey y’all! Some people may be completely comfortable with where their farm sits today and might not want to change anything and others may be looking for different way to produce more income and diversify your income. If you are looking for more ways to produce more income off of your farm then keep reading. These are 5 ideas that you could implement to bring in some extra money with your farm without putting all your eggs in one basket.

  • Roadside Stand: I have seen many people start to do this. You create a little roadside stand that goes off of the honor system and you can sell things from your garden, fresh eggs if you have chickens and maybe some crafts if you are crafty.

  • Double Crop: This is where you plant and harvest two crops on the same land in the same season or at the same time. We personally double crop Winter Wheat with Soybeans. So, not only will we harvest winter wheat and soybeans. We also bale the winter wheat after we harvest the wheat and turn it into straw square bales and sell those as well. This does really well for us so far.

  • Raise Meat Animals: This not only saves you money but you could also sell to others as well. You could do cattle, pigs or meat birds. It is so much better for your health as well. This is something we will be doing for the very first time this year starting out with beef cattle.

  • Do Custom Work: So many things can fall under this custom work from planting, field work, harvesting and other things. If you have the time and the equipment this can be a great option.

  • Do Repairs: If you have the time and are mechanically inclined you can do repairs and/or maintenance for other peoples equipment and machinery. This may even be something as small as a lawn mower or as big as a combine.

I hope these 5 ways to diversify your income on your farm may have sparked some ideas for you, moving forward to try and implement into your farm operation.
