How To Be A Supportive Bridesmaid

There are quite a few weddings coming up with the spring and summer. My husband an I have been married for 1.5 years. Which first of all I am here to tell you that marriage is absolutely incredible. But, if you are a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding this is just the post you are looking for. I have not been a bridesmaid before so this is simply from the perspective of a bride.

  • Show that you are excited: Be supportive. This is one of the most exciting times in the bride’s life. It’s important to share in that excitement with her.

  • Be flexible: This is important. Plans are happening fast and could be changing often. Be flexible to schedule changes.

  • Be on time: This is especially important on the wedding day but also for events leading up to it. Wedding dress appointments, bridal shower, bachelorette party, etc.

  • Get your dress altered early: Make sure once the bride has chosen her colors or style that you get your dress early and make sure it is altered in advance so you are not scrambling at the last minute to have your dress done.

  • Have your nails and toes done before the wedding day: If you are getting a manicure and pedicure, make sure that is done. You don’t want to worry about trying to do your nails the day of. The less you have to do on the day of the less stressful for everyone.

  • Don’t give advice the bride did not ask for: This is a big one. Do not give the bride unsolicited advice. Chances are she already knows what she wants and if she needs help making a decision she will ask for your opinion.

  • Get a gift or card: Don’t forget to get the bride a gift or a card. It’s something that could be forgotten when you are involved in the wedding. Make sure you get the new couple a little something as courtesy and to celebrate them.

  • Offer help, but don’t be pushy: This is similar to not giving unsolicited advice. It’s important to offer help and be willing to help where you can but do not be pushy about it. The bride will ask for help with things if she needs help.

  • Have Fun: Don’t forget to have fun. although it can be stressful at times it is such a fun time to get to be a bridesmaid. Enjoy this event and don’t forget to celebrate.
