Spring Cleaning: Around The Home

Hey y’all! Spring has sprung. We currently are experiencing the April showers. It is just down pouring right now. With spring here I am sure many others are thinking about spring cleaning, as am I. I like to keep a relatively regular cleaning routine, but spring makes for a good time to refresh and reset the home. *

General:

  • Clean Windows and Window Tracks: It’s time to let the spring sunshine shine bright throughout the house. Grab a microfiber towel and your favorite cleaning spray. I always use a non toxic cleaning spray. I use a sponge to clean the tracks of the window as it helps to collect the dust or any bugs that could have gotten trapped.

  • Leave Your Windows Open: If you live in a harsh winter climate I know many look forward to the weather warming up enough to be able to open up the windows for the day to let the fresh crisp air in. This is something I love to do while I am spring cleaning. Not to mention it is so good to improve your indoor air quality.

  • Clean Baseboards: Grab a sponge and your favorite cleaning spray and scrub away.

  • Dust: Grab your favorite duster and start dusting everything from picture frames and knick knacks to just counters and surfaces.

  • Shampoo Carpets: If you have carpets or area rugs shampooing them or having a company come in to deep clean them, can be a great way to start off your spring refreshed.

  • Wipe Down Walls: Grab a sponge and some warm water mixed with your cleaning spray and wipe down the walls and spot clean in areas such as the kitchen that could get splashes or spills.

  • Clean Ceiling Fans: I think this is a task that often gets missed or overlooked. But, our ceiling fans can get quite dusty.

  • Vacuum: Vacuuming every room is a great way to get a good deep clean at once.

  • Mop: Grab your favorite mop and mop your hard floors is one way to really freshen up your space and make it smell good.

  • Change Your Furnace Filter: This is something we all should be doing regularly. I definitely like to get it changed as spring starts.

  • Wash Winter Gear and Put Away: Once the weather permits its time to wash all of your winter gear and get it stored.

  • Wash Curtains: Another thing to wash to help reset and refresh are your curtains and window treatments.

  • Wash Throw Blankets: Now, is a great time to collect those throw blankets around the house and give them a nice refresh in the Wash.

Kitchen

  • Clean Out Pantry: Going through your pantry and getting rid of any expired food and then taking inventory of the ingredients you have can help avoid future waste when you are grocery shopping for future meals.

  • Deep Clean Oven: Grab a sponge and your favorite cleaning paste. I know some ovens have a self clean but I personally do not like to use that setting. I clean it the old fashioned way with some scrubbing power and elbow grease.

  • Deep Clean Inside Refrigerator: This is something I like to do quite often but I add it to my spring cleaning checklist every spring. It’s so nice to pull everything out. Scrub the shelves down with a sponge and my favorite cleaning spray. It’s a good opportunity to throw out any expired food or condiments.

  • Clean out freezer: I like to pull everything out of the freezer to go over inventory and just reorganize.

  • Clean cabinets: I clean the cabinets inside and out. I will take everything out of the cabinets and spray and wipe down with a microfiber cloth. Simultaneously I will get rid of anything we no longer use.

  • Clean Small Appliances: This is a great opportunity to deep clean your small appliances such as your coffee maker, air fryer, toaster, blender, etc.

Bathroom:

  • Update Medicine Cabinet/First-Aid: I take this as an opportunity to go through our medicine cabinet and first aid kit and make sure we have what we need and that nothing has expired.

  • Deep Clean Shower: Remove all of your soaps and toiletries from your shower and get a scrub brush some Bon Ami powder and I use a dish soap with it.

  • Wash Bathmats: Having washable bathmats is a must for me so I can refresh them often.

  • Deep Clean Toilet: I like to use Bon Ami powder with my favorite cleaning spray and a brush to deep clean the toilet.

  • Deep Clean Sink and Counter: Grab a sponge and your favorite cleaning spray to clean your sink and counter.

  • Wash Towels and Shower Curtain: Now, is a good time to gather all bath towels and hand towels and your shower curtain and wash it on hot water and dry it on high heat to sanitize them.

  • Wash or Replace Shower Curtain Liner: I have a cloth shower curtain liner so I just go ahead and throw min in the washer on hot water and dry it at high heat.

Bedroom

  • Wash All Bedding: Gather all of your bedding and give them a fresh wash.

  • Clean Out Closet and Dresser: Going through your closets and drawers with the change of each season and getting rid of everything that you do not want anymore is a good practice to have.

  • Clean Under Your Bed: It is so easy for things to get lost under your bed. Hair ties, socks, clothes, etc. You wouldn’t think things would get swept under it so easily but it never ceases to amaze me how things end up under there.

  • Wash Pillows: Along with your pillowcases it’s a great idea to go ahead and wash the pillows themselves too.

    Laundry

  • Deep Clean Washing Machine: Grab your favorite washing machine cleaner and let it run through the cleaning cycle.

  • Clean Dryer Vent: This is a great habit to get into to make sure it can dry your clothes safely and efficiently.

  • Organize Laundry Supplies: You can get fancy with this and buy pretty glass jars for your laundry products or a new shelf to put your products on.

    Outdoors:

  • Wash Window Screens: Window screens can get dusty and dirty so it’s a great idea to go ahead and clean the window screens with soap and water and a gentle brush. It would be a good time to make note of any of the screens that may need to be replaced.

  • Plant Your Garden: Weather permitting it’s time to get your garden planted. Click here to see what my Garden Plans are for 2024.

  • Mow: It’s probably time to get that first mow of the season in.

  • Weed Whack: When you mow, you could go ahead and get the first round of weed whacking done so you are on track to start your lawn care for the season.
